The school teaches the new national Curriculum for Mathematics. We set termly targets for maths. These targets inform the teachers planning and are shared with pupils and parents to enable pupils to make the best progress possible.
The school uses a variety of schemes to teach maths effectively- ARC Maths, Big Maths, Rising Stars Arithmetic, Badger maths and Test Base etc.
Pupils complete weekly CLIC tests which analyses and identifies areas that need to be taught more fully. There is also a weekly ‘Beat that’ test which tests times tables and rapid recall of number facts.
Problem solving and reasoning is taught in each year group through the use of Badger maths and the mastery checkpoints in Active Learn.
There is a peer mentoring programme set up across key stage 2. Pupils work in pairs to help and support each other in tackling more complex problems.
