Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

We have started this academic year with a touch of magic and enchantment with Year 6 reading the spellbinding Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Harry Potter thinks he is an ordinary boy - until he is rescued by a beetle-eyed giant of a man, enrols at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, learns to play Quidditch and does battle in a deadly duel.  The Reason: HARRY POTTER IS A WIZARD!

Will the boy who lives in a cupboard under the stairs, rise and defy his 'Muggle' family?  Will the reputation that precedes him, be a hindrance or an inspiration to his future life?

Upon completion of this term, the children were presented with their HWW certificate.

Year 6 had a magically enchanting day preparing mouthwatering, luscious Butterbeer, vanilla cupcakes, and eye-dazzling, chocolate wands.  Monster and wizard corner bookmarks were a favourite as well Hogwarts House badges which the children designed and sewn together.

Recommended Read Challenge

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire -Book of the week

We have a list of 100 books that we are sure that you will enjoy. Try and read as many books as you can and rise to the challenge of reading 100 books by the end of the year.

SATs Parent Workshop

All year 6 parents were invited to attend a SATs Parent Workshop which emphasised the need to support children's learning at home as well as their mental well-being.

To aid relaxation, children can follow these 'Mindful 4-7-8' breathing steps:-

  1. Sit upright on the ground or in a chair.

  2. Take a deep breath in through your nose to the count of 4.

  3. Hold your breath to the count of 7.

  4. Exhale through your mouth to the count of 8.

  5. Continue to do this until you are feeling calmed and relaxed.
